A3 Motorway Specifications & Quality
The A3 motorway offers dual carriageways, modern asphalt, and sweeping mountain panoramas.
Opened in 2010, the A3 motorway completely transformed travel between Marrakech and Souss-Massa. Cutting through the High Atlas, it reduced the previous 5-hour trek through winding mountain passes to less than 3 hours.
High Atlas Mountain Pass & The Chichaoua-Imintanout Section
The highway climbs steadily to the 560-meter Zaouiat Ait Mellal tunnel, the highest point of the route.
The route passes Imintanout before ascending toward the Zaouiat Ait Mellal tunnel at 950 meters above sea level. Despite mountain terrain, the highway maintains gentle highway curves and wide safety shoulders.
Descending into the Souss Valley
Leaving the mountains, the highway opens onto the fertile Souss plain dotted with citrus groves and argan trees.
After crossing the mountain pass, the highway descends smoothly toward Amskroud and into the sunny Souss plain, famous for its citrus orchards, banana plantations, and ancient argan forests.
Toll Gates, Service Stations & Rest Areas
Modern highway service stations feature international coffee shops, fuel stations, and clean amenities.
The motorway features service areas operated by Total and Afriquia every 60-70 km. You will find clean restrooms, ATMs, air-conditioned dining, and shaded outdoor terraces for espresso and refreshments.
Arriving in Agadir: Kasbah View & Bay Panoramas
Arriving at the Atlantic coast rewards travelers with sweeping views over the illuminated bay of Agadir.
The motorway ends at the northern entrance of Agadir, giving you instant access to the oceanfront boulevard, the marina, or the coastal road north to Taghazout and Imsouane.
